Guangzhou is located in southern China on the Pearl River, about 120 kilometers northwest of Hong Kong, this city is a key transportation hub and trading port. It is also the center of politics, the economy, culture and transportation in China, Guangzhou is one of the twenty-four famous historical and cultural cities in China which has plenty of architecture showcasing the ancient magnificence of Chinese civilization. With its long history, Guangzhou possesses many places of interests, Visitors should allow time to explore the place a bit more in order to fully appreciate this city, the following are some famous attractions in Guangzhou.

1. Yuexiu Park

Yuexiu Park is the largest park in downtown Guangzhou and it is also one of the most famous scenic spots in the city, perfectly combining cultural relics and ecological landscape. The park is named for the hills of Yuexiu Mountain on which it is built. Top sights include the stone statue of the Five Rams, the emblem of Guangzhou City, as well as the Ming-era Zhenhai Tower and the site of the Ming Dynasty City Wall.

2. Shamian Island

Shamian is a small island located in the middle of the Pearl River where many people go for a quiet and peaceful afternoon. It has colonial influences from the 19th century with old European-style buildings and boulevards. Some trees are more than 180 years old. You can find many coffee shops, cafes and restaurants including charity souvenir shops around.

3. Guangxiao Temple

Guangxiao Temple is a popular pilgrimage site for Zen Buddhists. Many famous monks from home and abroad have come to preach here since the Eastern Jin Dynasty. In the temple, there are the Mahavira Hall, Sleeping Buddha statue, bodhi trees and East and West Iron Pagodas.

4. Temple of the Six Banyan Trees

It is an old Buddhist temple complex which is active and is said to have a history of 1,500 years. There is a tall pagoda that was rebuilt about the year 1900, and there is a main hall that often has Buddhist worshippers worshipping and burning incense. Now, it is an active Buddhist temple where people burn incense at the dates of the Chinese New Year and Lantern Festival. This composite market consists of many markets. 6. Zoos in Guangzhou

There are two big zoos in Guangzhou, the one is Xiangjiang Safari Park. There 460 species in Guangzhou Zoo include white tigers, white lions, white kangaroos, red-headed cranes, flamingos, pygmy hippos, polar bears and so on. Another zoo is Guangzhou Zoo. It is set on 430,000sqm in and is the largest zoo in South China. There are more than 2,000 animals at the zoo, including pandas, golden-haired monkeys, and other unique animals.

7. Guangdong Provincial Museum

Guangdong provincial museum is a province-level comprehensive museum in China which is located on the old site of Sun Yat-sen University, Guangzhou. It is comprised of three parts: Exhibition Hall, Old Site of First Session Meeting of Kuomintang and Lu Xun Museum.

8. Night tour of the Pearl River

The Pearl River is the third longest river in China with a length of more than 2,000 kilometers. The river is composed of four separate river systems, which join up in Guangzhou, flow for about 70 kilometers, and then pour into the South China Sea. When evening light shows, a blaze of neon lights will reflect on the river, presenting a fascinating night view, it is really a perfect place for those who want to go for a walk and enjoy the gentle breeze in the evening.

9. White Cloud Mountain

It is one of the most famous mountains in southern Guangdong, and is rightly considered Guangzhou’s principal peak. During late spring, or after rainy days, the mountain becomes shrouded in fluffy, white clouds, hence the mountain’s name. It is no surprise that Guangzhou has been renowned as a picturesque resort since ancient times.

10. Chime-Long Paradise

Chime-Long Paradise is the largest amusement park in China and boasts the Tenth Ring Roller Coaster, This park features largest rides, shows and family interaction as iconic attractions. Most of the rides are imported from overseas.
